Air and plate heat exchangers to IKEA from Alfa Laval: A combination of a plate heat exchanger and a liquid dry cooler work to cool and heat the IKEA store. The geo-energy system is based on the transfer of heat between water, glycol and air depending upon the season. As a result, primary energy consumption was reduced by 76 percent.

Alfa Laval's range of products and expertise were decisive factors when Malmberg Water AB was looking for heat exchangers to install in a geo-energy system at IKEA, Sweden.

Two different vendors could have supplied these two quite different heat exchangers which could have turned out to be a head-ache from an installation and service perspective., Now, the customer has one supplier responsible for the total performance of the two heat exchangers working together. By optimizing the working parameters like flow and temperature, Alfa Laval created a tailor-made combination of products so the products worked together in the best possible way.

As a result of the installation, primary energy consumption was reduced by 76 percent. This corresponds to a CO2 emission reduction of 2,200 tons per year in comparison to using oil.

These positive results from IKEA in Karlstad have been replicated at other IKEA stores in Malmö, Helsingborg and Uppsala.
